"On Thursday 18 May 2017, the world received the news that musician, singer and songwriter Chris Cornell was dead. As with many the world over, I was in disbelief and shock. Chris, one of my heroes, someone who I thought was untouchable was now gone.
The next day, Friday 19th May I woke up in the bedroom of the share house I was in at the time and was overwhelmed with sadness. I sat on the side of my bed, unable to move. I had so much to do that day, but I didn’t want to leave my room. I simply reached over to my guitar by the bed, and this song began to take place. First the chords which became the verse, singing a melody that seemed to help soothe what I can only describe as mourning. Then it all came out, all the chords and words and the song was done.
I got my phone and used GarageBand to record the song. Nothing more. What you hear is myself playing an acoustic guitar and singing using the phone mic. The plan was to re-record it in a studio, but I decided to leave it as it is. A demo, a day when I was sad at the loss of someone I had admired for many years. His loss made me realise that there’s nothing to be afraid of, to be alive and well with all these songs written is no use if I never share it with the world. He can’t share anything anymore, it’s done. There’s also been so many before him who have gone in tragic ways. Channelling this song helped me process through a down time. I’m very blessed to be able to recognise this, and hope that with it, I can help someone along the way also. We don’t know when our light will be put out, so make the most of it while you’re shining.
With love,
Danny.
For Chris Cornell."

LYRICS:
The Darker Side Of Light
Danny Leo.
I look upon your face, and the human race
You stand out like a flame that’ll never die
You rose up from a scene, you know now what I mean
The tragedies that set you off have now set you free
All I wanna do is run, all the work you did is done
You see the darker side of light, even though it’s bright
You give me feelings I can’t hide, welling deep inside
You tell me it’s alright, even though it’s a lie
The darker side of light
You look upon my face, and the human race
Leaning on the world like it ain’t round
You couldn’t shake or hide, the dark behind your light
Bleeding from the hands that let you down
All I wanna do is run, all the work you did is done
You see the darker side of light, even though it’s bright
You give me feelings I can’t hide, welling deep inside
You tell me it’s alright, even though it’s a lie
The darker side of light
It’s a funny feeling living in your world
It’s a funny feeling living in your world
I tried to be there now I’m feeling like a shell because you’re gone
But is it wrong?
So long
You see the darker side of light, even though it’s bright
You give me feelings I can’t hide, welling deep inside
You tell me it’s alright, even though it’s a lie
The darker side of light
